Urban Sketchers Twin Cities, mark your calendars for these August events!

1. Burwell House Revisited

Host: Peter Mathews

Please join me for a return visit to the Burwell House in Minnetonka for a coffee sketch.

When: Wednesday, August 6th, 10am-noon

Where: 14600 Minnetonka Blvd., Minnetonka, MN

2. Sketch Meet at Raspberry Island- Alebrijes- Keepers of the Island
When: Sunday, August 17th, 12-3pm
Where: Raspberry Island, St. Paul MN, 55107
Hosted by Carol Rieger
Details: The exhibit of 15+ wildly colorful sculptures on the island is hosted by the Minnesota Latino Museum. In addition to the sculptures this site has sketching opportunities on all sides; skylines of St. Paul, bridges over the Mississippi and house boats moored up on the banks.
There are bathrooms available, but bring your sketch stools, sunscreen and hats as there is limited shade on the island. There is a small amphitheatre that provides some cover, but I would come prepared. Additionally, please "Mind Your Map" as the access to the island which has ample parking is a bit curvy-wurvy.
A little history. Originally named for the wild raspberries growing on it, the island served as a meeting place for Native American tribes. Later, the Minnesota Boat Club established its presence there in 1885, and a boathouse was built in 1910, which still stands today. In the mid-20th century, the island was briefly known as Navy Island before reverting to its original name, Raspberry Island, in 1995.
