Science Museum Sketch Day (5/4), Coffee Sketch (4/26), and More!
Hi Urban Sketchers Twin Cities,
Please join us for the Science Museum of Minnesota Sketch Day!
When: Saturday, May 4th, 12-3pm
Where: Science Museum of MN, 120 W Kellogg Blvd, St Paul, MN 55102. (https://new.smm.org/)
Art
and Science help us explore, interpret, and study the world around us
and on May 4, the Urban Sketchers will have the opportunity to sketch in
the Science Museum of Minnesota in St Paul.
We
will be partnering with SMM's Maker Saturday event. The goal of Maker
Saturdays is to spark curiosity and creativity. SMM will likely post
easels around the museum to encourage visitors to try sketching
themselves. In addition, please be open to questions that you may
receive from the patrons.
Dinosaurs,
Mayan ruins, the Mississippi River, and a huge spaceperson are just a
few of the things that await you. In addition, Star Wars characters will
be walking around and SMM will be hosting a wookie figurine hunt in
celebration of May the 4th.
We
will meet in the lobby at noon and re-gather again at 2:45pm in the same
location for the throwdown. A rep from the museum will be meeting us
for a short presentation prior to sketching. Entry to the museum is free
for our group! Because of the number of active children, they have
asked that we refrain from using paint (may need to add your color later
or try a new color medium). SMM has its own parking ramp (fee required)
or enjoy street parking around the museum.
May the 4th be with you! ~hosted by Lisa Schlosser
Other Upcoming Events and News---
1. Coffee Sketch At Lost Fox, Lowertown, St. Paul
When: Friday, April 26, 10am-12pm
Where: 213 4th St. East, St. Paul, (https://lostfoxlowertown.com/)
Two
year-old coffee house in warehouse-type building, offering brickwork,
natural lighting, food and fun. They open at 8 a.m if you wish for an
early start. Parking is pay-for, off-street. I’ve been hoping to
discover more East-Metro locations so big thanks to Heather Hultgren
and friends for discovering the Lost Fox. I will scope it out for
further details and report back if I find other goodies or free parking
to talk about. The Coffee Sketches have been a hit and such a fun way
to explore the metro and get to know each other better in more intimate
surroundings.
Hope
you can make it! Also, for future, warmer-weather sketching, I have
found and talked to three good coffee venues in Stillwater, MN. As well
as have notes on other places that have been suggested. Here’s to
dipping our brushes into our neighbor sketcher’s coffee! ~ Hosted by Lori Tolonen
