Mark Your Calendars: Open Streets Sketch-Out Sunday, June 10th

Last year's Open Streets Mpls event on Lyndale Avenue South was an incredible event and cornucopia of material for urban sketchers (see June 12, 2011 USTC blog post). This event is the place to be if you want to sketch lots of happy people bicycling, walking, rollerblading, singing dancing, doing yoga etc.

We're inviting everyone who likes to sketch, beginners & pros and anyone in between to join us in a sketch-out at Open Streets June 10th, 2012, Lyndale Ave South. The plan is we will meet for breakfast at the French Meadow Bakery, 2610 Lyndale at 9 AM for coffee and breakfast - we'll get acquainted and then disperse to sketch. We'll meet again at 4:30, again at French Meadow to show our sketches and I'll take photos and post them on the blog like we did with the Minnesota State Fair sketch-out . I will have more details about the sketch-out as we get closer to June 10th.

Sketch-outs are a lot of fun, but it is also an endurance thing, so be prepared. For info on what to bring with you to Open Streets, I suggest reading Roz Stendahl's excellent multi-part series on equipment and other preparations for sketching at the MN State Fair- I found these posts especially useful: Part 1 The Heavy Equipment , Part 4: "Travel" Essentials for Sketchers, and Part Six: Dressing for Success.

This video from Blue Cross shows the work that goes into the event and all the visually fun stuff to sketch at Open Streets (Roberta and I are shown sketching at 3:57):

Here's the sketches Roberta and I did last year at Open Streets and some artwork we did based on the sketches (click on the sketches to make them bigger): This is my sketch:
