Sketching at the Commemorative Air Force Minnesota Wing Museum

Wednesday, Roberta and I biked down to South Saint Paul with our friend Andy Singer to do a little sketching at the Commemorative Air Force Minnesota Wing hangar and museum. CAF's museum is a great place to sketch. We were able to view the airplanes up close and the volunteers were friendly and informative. We will definitely return to sketch again.

Andy and I enjoyed sketching the vintage airplanes and vehicles. Roberta found the exhibit on WASPs (Women Air Force Service Pilots) more interesting from a fashion artist point of view.

Here's our sketches, click on them to make them bigger:

My sketch of an engine.
This was my second visit to the museum. Back in April, I biked down to the museum to sketch their B-25 bomber. My dad was a bombardier on a B-25 during WW2. He wrote a several stories about his experience including this short story "Hot Lips". My brother wrote a short story about my dad's experience during the war and after titled "The Navigator". I thought a lot about my dad as I sketched the CAF's "Miss Mitchell".

  1. Fun sketches, Ken, Roberta, Andy! You should join me back there next weekend for the
CAFMN Hangar Dance. The planes are moved outside and the floor is taken over by vintage clad swing dancers and a live band for the evening. It's like stepping back in time.
